Stan und Ollie ziehen als Musikclowns mit ihrem klapprigen Auto durchs Land. Als sie wegen Benzinmangels liegen bleiben, kommt ihnen der Betrüger Chester Wright zu Hilfe. Er erzählt ihnen, dass er mit einer Wunderpille Wasser in Benzin umwandeln kann. Spontan satteln die beiden um, um die Pillen an den Mann zu bringen. Doch als diese nur Rauch statt Benzin produzieren, müssen sie vor der geleimten Kundschaft fliehen. Ihr Weg führt sie auf ein Fest, wo sie die junge Sängerin Susan kennen lernen, die von Gaunern um ihr Erbe betrogen wurde. Stan und Ollie erweisen sich als echte Männer der Tat: als Paar verkleidet und bewaffnet mit den Wunderpillen, wollen sie der Bande das Handwerk legen...
